M by Mendocino Opens at Yonge Eglinton Centre

The Mendocino Clearance store prevously on Yonge and in between Eglinton and Lawrence has officially moved a few blocks south at the conveniently located Yonge-Eglinton Centre! The store is great for those who love the store but can't quite afford the merchandise at their regular stores (though I must admit...the regular priced stuff is so much nicer).

*EDIT*The catch is....you will receive a gift with any $50 purchase to celebrate their new store opening!

This may be old news, but I only found out yesterday and they opened on Thursday.... so hopefully they still have some left. Hurry everyone.

Hello hello. It's been eons since I last blogged. Work is busy blah blah blah. I hate my job, but I'm lucky to have one blah blah blah.

The important thing is yay, updates! You all know what my favourite things are. Shoes! So moving along.

Salvatore Ferragamo Granny shoes! Loafers that are cut low...so they're kinda a cross between loafers and ballet flats. These were gonna be my work shoes. My goodness, they are just so comfortable.
The difference between part time work and f/t is that you really become tired for f/t. You put less effort and strive for comfort. They look less granny on the feet..regardless, I think I'll be passing these onto my mom.

The 'new(er)' Converse. Jack Purcells in dark silver. I've been searching for a pair of these babies in this colour forever. I searched high and low on Sneaker street in MK with no luck. I found these 2 days before I left HK, and they were 50% off at a shop on Grandville road in TST!

I'm a hypocrite. I never bought into the high-heeled oxford trend. I'm still not 100% on them, but the chunky heel and the bootie shape was perfect for all my wide legged dress pants throughout winter.

I'm in love with the Pedro Garica ones...but had to settle with these knockoffs . Now this is jewellery for your feet! Strings of pearls and rhinestones make this a real attention getter. 'Blair' isn't really my style....but the girly girl in me couldn't resist.

Of course, I save the best for last! My first pair of Choos :) The perfect non-boring work shoe! The pointy toe, the heel height, and the neutral colour screams 'career'...but the d'orsay cut and the cutout detail make this a little more interesting. And yes, those are the airplus gel steppies in there.

A Valentine's Dinner that's Affordable??

As some of you may already know....Winterlicious ends on Feb.12 this year. Don't fret though, cos I received an email from Allusion Restaurant showing me their affordable Valentine's day menu, as I have been there a few times and signed up to be on their mailing list. I would do a review...but I didn't take any pics the last few times I ate there.

Anyways, I really like the restaurant. The ambiance is great, the staff provide great service...and of course, one of the most important things for me is that you get great food at a great price. This combination is hard to find uptown. They also have live music every Saturday night.

The location is a little 'off' as it is at a strip plaza surrounded by Chinese dim sum shops and noodle houses...so many of the people who visit that plaza may not be interested in checking Allusion out.

I'm feeling the love already..so I would like to share the menu with readers and hope that Allusion doesn't mind me posting it here.

It depends if you use it for under your eyes (go lighter) or facial blemishes. I have fair Asian skin and I use Beige mostly since I mainly use it for dark circles. Ocher matches me perfectly for facial skin imperfections, and in the summer when I am slightly tanned.

I was quite excited to receive this pursehook made by My Tagalongs.

I don't usually keep my bags on the icky floor anyways, but it is always uncomfortable to place your bag on the back of your chair and be forced to sit on only half of the seat. When space is limited, your baby is not always able to have its own chair, especially at tables for two.

You don't have to own a designer bag to justify the use of a purse hook...we all want to protect our precious bags! I cherish my Damier Speedy 30 as much as my purple lambskin satchel by Danier (a Canadian leather company), even though it is a fraction of the price. Actually, I am more afraid of damaging the delicate lambskin of the Danier than getting the coated canvas of the Speedy dirty, as it can easily be wiped off. Anyone living in a climate of snow, rain and ice will probably need this even more. Can you imagine placing your bag on a bed of wet, melting snow and salt and getting waterstains on your leather? *shudders*

HK Shopping: Leather Jackets

These were some of the ones I had in mind when I planned to purchase my first leather jacket...

Moschino Cheap and Chic Double Breasted jacket-nice bright colour, and I LUUURRVE the buttons and the belted detail on the sleeves. Not too fond of the cropped sleeves though.

Juicy Couture shrunken leather hoodie, minus the shrunken part. If I'm going to get ONE leather jacket, it better be practical and keep you (slightly) warm. This is more plain, but simple means that it will go with everything. Plus, I've always had a thing for hoodies, they are just too comfy!

Jenni Kayne Asymmetrical Motorcycle Jacket-this look is hot! It adds an instant 'coolness' to your outfits whether you pair it with simple tee/tank and skinny jeans, or with a flowery chiffon dress + military boots. I would pair it with outfit one, as it is more my style....

I saw these all over stores in HK...yet didn't want to shell out $3000+ HKD ($500 CAD, $400+ USD) for a jacket that I would only be able to wear during the non-rainy days late days or spring or early autumn. With the amount of rain we got in Toronto last year....it just wasn't really worth it. I saw plenty of pleather jackets in this style too...but they still cost $600+HKD, and I really go for quality > trends.

In the end...I got:
A deep eggplant coloured lambskin motorcycle jacket. It's really more of a deep purple than it appears with the flash in this picture. I love purple, and it is dark enough of a shade to appear as a neutral, so goes with most of my outfits easily. I like the snap collar. The cut is slimming, and the details are simple making this, what I would call a staple in my wardrobe. I wore this EVERYWHERE during the chillier days in HK with a lavender pashmina scarf...cos I'm really into monochromatic dressing :P
AND, unexpectedly, I got a second leather jacket! The big angular collars satisfy my obsession with motorcycle jackets like the Jenni Kayne one above. White leather is tricky...but it looks really good. The grey elastic lining runs along the sides of the jacket and the sleeves, so that I don't have to worry about gaining or losing a few pounds and not be able to wear it again. This was only a little over half the price of the purple jacket!!! It was a super deal that I found at the most obscure of all places to shop in HK..........Stanley!!!!!

I was crazy over buying coats/jackets on my HK trip...2 down, and more to come!

Keep on Shopping: Hong Kong Edition-Day 3

I must say, there is probably no where better to shop than HK!!! I'm at day 3 right now, and will be here for many more days to come. The best of both the East and West meet here, there are no taxes, and you can get dirt cheap market scores to the most luxurious designer brands, all in once city!

After shopping for 3 days straight and hitting up 4 huge malls, and 2-3 smaller shopping centers, I've already scored several items, from clothing, to jewellery, to shoes, from affordable chain stores, local brands, and designer duds. Arggh...must pace myself before I spend all my money! Will need to take pics of my items and post them here :D I only got my adapter today at Apliu street, so I hven't bheen able to use my computer for 2 days already. I'm so gung ho about shopping that I don't even think I feel my jetlag!

Any tips for shopping and eating from local HK-ers highly appreciated!

Review: CARE by Stella McCartney Calming & Soothing Elixir

After testing out the Stella McCartney line for awhile now ( a little over a month), I've found a new favourite. Sure, the packaging is pretty, it comes in a hygienic pump tube, it's certified organic, with 100% organic active ingredients and no petrochemicals or silicones, and not tested on animals-being true to Stella's values...but does the stuff inside work?

The Calming and Soothing Elixir certainly works for me! I've used this alone, with the CARE 5 benefits moisturizing fluid (as suggested in the instructions), and with moisturizers from other brands (which happened to be the very economical Avon Botanisource-LOVE!) and my skin has definitely improved which I attribute to this elixir. I have mild rosacea, redness on my cheeks usually, and even though it's not completely gone, it is certainly fading. Another confound or reason for the improvement in my skin may be due to the Vitamin B I've been taking...but that should only control for the stress bumps I get on my forehead.

Of course, to be critical there are two things I wish I could change about this product.
1) Change the container to be clear so that I can see how much product is left
2) Price! Unfortunately, this costs $64 USD (with the whole line's range being from $35-80)

All in all, I would probably repurchase this...just not so often.

I Got 'em Boots

So I ended up choosing fashion>function.

I swear I'm usually a comfort>fashion gal (except for Uggs, Crocs, and grey sweatpants for going out). I wore these out once...and goodness gracious, my left foot was scraped beyond relief! It was embarrasing how I tried to not limp (which probably made me look more ridiculous). I dind't know you had to break boots in! The right shoe was a display...so my right foot was fine. I was in pain all day and it took me twice as long to get from one destination to another. Someone tell me how these can retail for $495 CAD (found out online that they go for $395 in the U.S. Scam!) cos they're the most painful flat boots I own to date. I'm still cursing the leather sole too...I'm not a believer in them.

However, at the end of the treacherous day, the S.A. at Lululemon complimented my boots :D:D:D I guess "No Pain, No Gain" really worked in this case. So, I love these boots again and decided to stop cursing them. Yup, all it took was one comment to take the pain away...I still have a bandaid stuck on my foot as I'm writing this :(

Summer clearance buys that also work for fall

Over the knee stockings in deep violet by Miss Sixty. Not really my style, but I like it on other people so I'm giving it a try. They're actually not sheer when put on, but sheer enough to wear during S/S yet like tights, you can wear 'em under dresses or with shorts as shown above. It actually has the Miss Sixty studded on the leg of one sock (like the pic) which I don't prefer.... However, I haven't had much luck finding a pair that's not sheer. That, or it's more expensive (American Apparel). Now why would I pay more for socks made in L.A. when I can get cheaper ones made in Italy? The cheapo in me will stick to logowhoring for the sake of saving a few bucks thank you very much.

Burgundy embellished tank with ruching and silk empire waist by Development. I love this brand, especially when it was designed by Philip Lim early on... This is one of my favourite colours to wear and looked so flattering! Though sleeveless, the rich berry colour is perfect for autumn! The straps are embellished with tiny pieces of metallic red foil which looks really cool but is quite annoying because they fall off or hook onto other things.

Bright pink knit tank w/ circle pattern by Milly. I love the colour and the subtle circle print knit! I can try to winter-ize it by layering it over thin black turtlenecks and tees (I know...how creative! lol) Unfortunately, knit stretches out so the straps are getting looser with each wear :S

Why is it that I can never stick to my wishlist?

I try to...I really do. I was on the lookout for basic BLACK heels for work and play, and I come across these. The patent isn't too shiny, and the red isn't too bright which may tend to look a bit hookerish. Still, I call these my hooker shoes :P. DJP is known for his comfortable shoes so I'm excited to finally be able to own a pair. The soles are both leather and rubber which means no slipping and sliding! These will look great w/ LBDs and LWDs for weekends. These will make my somber/neutral work attire more interesting. Even though they came without a box or dustbag, I got them for 70% off at Winners (which are getting some pretty good shoes in by the way). HA, take that!

Sigh.

Kors vs. Palmroth = Fashion vs. Function

Kors Michael Kors boots....they look better irl.
The pointed toe and leather sole means fashion>function since I won't be able to tread through the snow with these. I'd wear these during fall and early winter...to work or out for dinner on the weekends. I'd tuck jeans into them or wear them with skirts and dresses.

OR

Pertti Palmroth boots with rubber soles and lined with fleece on the inside and without the chain detail on back ( I couldn't find the exact pic..but these are similar). Learn about this Finnish brand here.
Same uses as the Kors pair. I'd wear these out on a weekend...and maybe to school too since the rubber sole can handle that.

Would it be really redundant to get both pairs...since they're both black and flat?

I have boots that look similar to the second pair already....but the fleece lining and sole is amazing! The construction of the Palmroth boots is wonderful and fit for a Canadian winter since they're made in Finland...but it's not like I'm planning to wear these to shovel snow or walk for miles over slush.

However, I like the looks of the KORS boots more. They're not as warm or comfy but the zipper detail and belt loops at the top make it look visually more interesting. Damn you leather sole!

OMG...I actually considered another pair of Kors boots w/ 3.5 inch heels...but I'm too practical so I'm not even gonna post those.

Biotherm Flash Recharge Concentrate

A few months ago, I was invited to a Biotherm event where were were introduced to new products and got to try some samples!

I waited out a few months before writing this because of the obvious reason/excuse of being busy...(hence the MIA) and because it's hard to determine if you really like something right away.

I will be honest...I haven't been using this consistently...so I don't know if it improved my skin or not. It certainly did not worsen it because the consistency is super light and oil free. It claims to give your skin an energetic glow. I don't know if my skin looked it, but it CERTAINLY felt recharged! I love the way it feels!

$49 CAD may seem a bit pricy as the bottle is small (30ml)...but if you get it during a GWP (which is usually $30) then I think this is worth it. It makes me feel really good...just use some luminzing powder on top to get that extra glow :)

Eye Enhancers

Nope, I'm not going to be talking about make up this time. Not mascara, eyeshadow, nor eyeliner.

I'm considering getting coloured contacts! I love how they are a subtle way to change your looks. Having dark hair myself, I find that blue or purple eyes looks striking! Often, those with Asian eyes tend to choose colours like hazel or grey because they look better...but having tried trial pairs in the past, I found out I look best in blue and purple....though I really hoped that I would look good in green. So, if you are planning to buy coloured contacts, I highly suggest that you go to your optical shop and ask for trial pairs before you decide on which colour(s) to get!

There are many options in terms of colours and brands to choose from nowadays. I started off with Freshlook Colors (opaques) which gave me more of that 'striking' look I was trying to achieve. The next time, I tried Freshlook Colorblends which are a little more natural.

I found an old pic of me wearing blue lenses. I don't think I was wearing makeup in this pic...so it'll probably look better if you piled on the mascara or falsies!

I've recently started wearing Acuvue Oasys...and boy, they are comfy! I previously wore hard RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) lenses for the past 7 years...so I suppose anything would seem comfy. Regardless, I'm interested in trying the Acuvue 2 Color Enhancers in Aquamarine...anyone tried them before?

There's also the new 'black' coloured contacts that are supposed to give you 'anime sized eyes'....but I'll leave that for another post ;)

Listerine Whitening Strips

The people at Matchstick.ca were kind enough to let me try out the new Listerine Whitening strips. They are basically the same concept as the Crest whitestrips...you place them on your teeth in the morning and night for two weeks and end up with visibly whiter teeth!

I've used the Crest whitening paste and the whitestrips in the past prior to the Listerine so it was easier to compare which is better and worse. I found the Crest whitening paste hard to spread evenly on my teeth and it felt gunky...so I never finished using the entire thing.

The Crest whitestrips showed a significant difference and I loved how you could tell my teeth were whiter in a few days! However, I felt that having them on for 1/2 an hour was too uncomfortable. The package says you can talk on the phone with them...but I could barely speak. All the saliva sticks to the strips and when you pull them out of your mouth..you get a mouthful of drool *ick*

Now, the Listerine whitening strips are the newest ones out in the market...so it's obvious they would take the best elements available and make it even better. These strips dissolve in 5-10 minutes, so gotta love that! Also, with the strips dissolving, there's no messiness involving drooling mouths nor product removal. You can literally sleep in them!
The gripes I have about them is that the mint flavour could be too strong for some. I gave some to a friend and she said it burned her tongue. I'm also iffy about swallowing chemicals that can whiten your teeth....

I recommend this product if you're looking for a rather affordable teeth whitening system that's convenient. However, if you have really yellow teeth and want to whiten them FAST, then Crest seems to whiten better. I am tempted to try GoSmile though....

Cheap and Chic Fashion: Joe Fresh

I can't believe I haven't raved about Joe Fresh yet.

Joseph Mimran is the designer behind this label found in Loblaws and the Real Canadian Superstore supermarkets. Yup, grocery stores is where you'll find the treasures. Before you freak out, understand that this is also the man who brought to us Club Monaco (fan right here) and Caban. Emergency Relief Needed

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the Sichuan province of China has been one of the deadliest natural disasters in years. The tremor was so huge that surrounding countries such as Japan and Pakistan could feel the quake. You have all probably seen or heard the news already and are aware of the continually rising numbers of dead and missing. Watching the clips of the devastated family members, anxiously searching for their friends and family and seeing their loved ones passed away is nothing but heartbreaking. The tears of those in pain emotionally, and physically reminds us how blessed we are. Don't forget the situation in Myanmar.

There I was, worrying about whether I'll get that job in an upcoming interview. Thinking if I should spend my birthday money on shoes or a bag? I totally need to try that posh new restaurant recommended by TorontoLife. I'm totally bummed out because I got a B instead of an A. These are some of my(or maybe your's?) day to day thoughts or worries. Let's pause for a moment, and think about all of life's blessings. How we are able to stuff ourselves during dinner, and how we have the ability to be laughing and smiling each waking moment.

Let's stop shopping for a moment. Instead of contributing to that new pair of Choos, maybe we can give what we can give to those less fortunate than us. Give up our little luxuries, and perhaps help save a life (or lives), especially at a crucial moment like this. Sure, there is famine and war everyday...but sometimes (unfortunately), it takes a large cry for help to get our attention to give.

Tips to packing lightly for your next vacation

I just came back from my week long West Caribbean cruise...and it was awesome! Although I'm no jet set darling ( I wish I were), I'm fond of travelling and try to make an international trip once a year. I've been travelling since 2 years old and one of my goals is to travel around the world.

One thing I've noticed that distinguishes me from many of my friends/family and fellow tourists when travelling is how lightly I pack. I'm not kidding when I say that I'm a light packer. I don't cheat either, by buying new luggage and bringing it back filled with stuff. I went on a 5 day trip to the U.S. last year to attend a conference with a group of college students, guys and girls. I had the smallest luggage, and I'm a GIRL! For the recent 9 day Caribbean cruise, I went to and came back with a small rolling carry-on suitcase along with my Tokidoki tote with everything that I needed for the trip and souvenirs during my return.

I've mentioned in other posts that I'm low maintenance and would not sacrifice comfort for fashion...but that doesn't mean I travel looking like a slob! The key is organization. I always print out a checklist when packing for a vacation. You can list items by categories or you can plan outfits by day.

Here's what I packed for my 9 day Western Caribbean Cruise:
Tops:
-3 cotton printed dresses ( 2 strapless, 1 sleeveless) for day-to-night
-2 formal dresses (for captain's night and formal dinner)
-1 tunic that could be used as both a beach cover-up or minidress for clubbing
-1 graphic tee
-1 v-neck solid coloured tee
-1 dressy halter (for night)
-1 white camisole (for layering)
-1 black tube top (for layering)
Bottoms:
-1 denim miniskirt
-1 trouser shorts
-1 pair of jeans (flight)
-1 pair of leggings (for flight)
-1 pair of casual shorts
Outerwear (for chilly temperatures at night and air conditioned indoors):
-1 cardigan (to go w/ the day-to-night dresses)
-1 fleece hoodie
-1 sheer blouse (fashionable, yet doesn't leave you as cold as wearing a tank alone)
-1 casual button down shirt with collar
-1 windbreaker (in case it rains)
-1 jacket ( Toronto's weather was 10-16 degrees celsius, Caribbean was high 20's low 30 degrees)
Accessories:
-1 pashmina scarf/wrap (w/ formal wear, and on flight)
-1 wooden bangle (for day)
-1 cocktail ring
-1 pair of hoop earrings
-1 large tote bag (to carry to beach and on flight)
-1 small purse (for evening and running around the ship in general)
-1 hat
-1 headband (for fuss free hair w/ style)
-1 pair of sunglasses
Shoes:
-1 pair of flip flops (for beach, in room, on the ship)
-1 pair of ballet flats (looks good with dresses, comfort of a slipper)
-1 pair of flat sandals
-1 pair of sneakers
-1 pair of heels (for evening and formal)
Others:
-1 set of exercise gear (yoga pants, sport tank)-->to burn those calories from all those buffets!
-2 swimsuits ( 1 tankini top + black boyshort bottoms (that go with everything), 1 reversible bikini set)
-underwear and socks (remember to pack extras!)
-Nintendo DS
-Camera
-ipod
-umbrella
-1 towel, if you're uncomfortable w/ using 'public' items
-****Extra flat, foldable, carry on bag in case you buy more than you can fit into one bag alone****
Toiletries:
-bring everything in travel size(except for sunscreen), and under 100 ml if you don't check in your luggage like me. That's when those samples/GWP sets come in handy.
-if you're not too finicky about your makeup like me, a good makeup palette (w/ blush, eyeshadow, lipcolour), eyelash curler, mascara, face brush, and concealer is all you need. You don't really need (much) makeup for the beach anyways!
-a small wireless hair straightener/curling iron if you insist (I recently chopped my hair off to a shoulder length bob...so I left these at home)

Yup, all of the above went into my little carry on suitcase and I never repeated an outfit twice. You'll get an extra boost of confidence too when you're just as comfy in your light cotton sundress as the other people onboard are in their t shirt +shorts+velcro sandals combo. Of course, the way you pack is important too. Always roll hard plastic, fragile items (wooden bangle, chargers) up inside clothing for extra cushioning to prevent breaking anything. Fold your clothes properly and lay them flat, but wrinkle free items (like sheer blouse) can be rolled and stuffed in the extra holes. Wrinkle free items are the best for travel to avoid the extra costs of ironing. Toiletries should also be cushioned by clothing so they won't break and spill all over your stuff.
Pack only a little bit more than what you need but don't go overboard. Always pack extra socks/underwear and no matter how high the temperature of your destination is, a jacket and scarf is a MUST.

I hope this extra long entry will be beneficial to all those preparing to travel this summer! Leave me a comment if you have any other good advice for packing :D

A bit of logo overkill...but it would match my plain YSL bag perfectly! The price is right at $56USD since I never got around to getting either charms last year from this post.
I can now touch up my lipgloss AND dab on perfume on the go without carrying those perfume samples that always leak. I haven't smelled 'Elle' yet...but the ad w/ Coco Rochas sure is enticing. I also prefer this purse charm over the Dior heart locket w/ those tacky beads that dangled.

I found this on Sephora's website, but I'm gonna hunt this down at Holt Renfrew since it's the only place that carries YSL cosmetics.

I finally got a chance to use these since I lived in flat boots the whole winter. Those darn Aldo stilettos I had on were killing my feet the last time I wore them...but thanks to these Airplus gel steppies...I finally didn't have to limp or take off my shoes.

I actually don't take off the sticker on the backing though...I just stick 'em into the whatever closed-toe shoes I find uncomfortable so that I can reuse them.

I had to attend a formal. I wore a red dress...but realized I had no shoes to go with it. I don't even own a basic pair of black pumps!

These glittery gold Repetto T-Strap sandals appeared at just the right time (which was a few days before the event). I know they're not too versatile due to the amount of glitter...but I was DESPERATE! The heel isn't that sexy...but they're still 3 inches. Have I mentioned the comfort factor yet? OMG...the padding provided is amazing! My friends' feet all hurt in the middle of the night, especially after dancing, but I didn't feel any discomfort until the very end....and it was only slight discomfort. I suppose that's a given, since Repetto does specialize in creating dancing shoes.

I'm sorry that my feet have to be in that picture...I know toes aint the most pleasant thing to look at...but I'm lazy..and that pic was conveniently snapped without me knowing.

To complete the final segment of the 'shoes' series...we have these adorable Burberry pink 'candy novacheck' mules with kitten heels. I actually thought they were ballet flats when I saw them in store cos I'm not a 'mules' kinda girl....oh well!

My style is never 'cute and girly', but having just a bit of pink and small bows peek out from under my jeans or trousers add a little sweetness to my outfits. The low heel and ease of having to just slide my feet in make these shoes perfect for for my 'no fuss' approach to fashion.

So what if they're chav-tastic? XD

Please meet my first pair of Miu Miu's: Dark silver flats with gold capped toes and ankle strap.

I haven't worn these out yet but I have a feeling they're going to be my favourite flats because they are sooooooo comfy! No scraping like my other elasticized flats and they actually feel like a shoe instead of a ballet slipper because of the padding and thicker sole. There's also very subtle toe cleavage.
Remember when Kate Bosworth wore this Prada dress and Miu Miu heels to the Costume Institute Gala last May? I saw this pic in a copy of Vogue last year and the shoes must have unconsciously attracted me to them when I saw them on the rack. I guess the 'mere exposure' effect I learned in Psych class really does work!

Although my shoes are from S/S 07, it's a good thing that mary-jane flats are still going strong this spring as shown above from the Chanel Spring 2008 Couture runway. Can't wait to wear mine!

patent leather flat sandals?

Ok...so these are by Prada so I know I can't say $50.

Here's my dilemma:
I need a pair of flat sandals for those long summer days of walking around the city...or town.
Comfort: I find thongs incredibly uncomfortable but that seems to be the trend for most flat sandals.
Style: I don't like gladiator sandals nor birkenstocks because I find them ugly (on me at least).
Financial: I can't justify splurging over $100 on flat, nearly material-less shoes. Look at those soles! They'll be gone after a summer or two!
but, I found out that some fancier flat sandals these days cost up to $90 or so at Aldo and Nine West...

hrmm....... and the S.A. said these looked good (ITA). I tried on 4 pairs of shoes and only got the thumbs up for these.

Well, there's still quite a bit of time until summer starts....should I just be patient and wait for another cheaper alternative to come to me?

Ta-Da! I know...they're not exactly what you think of when you hear 'Pedro Garcia'...no satin, no ribbons....just a plain pair of white pointed toe slingbacks w/ 3 inch heels.

I'm always scared of white items...but these will be a good way to train me to baby my items more...since I tend to be quite rough on shoes. Since I"ll be working in the summer (hopefully), these will be the perfect shoes that'll go with everything.

Le SportSac Tokidoki Adios Star BV tote: This side has better character placements and more characters. The other side has like 2 characters only! I guess that's what you get for a discounted bag. At least I got Latte and Cactus Boy! Can't wait to start using it for school come spring! Though this is many people's least favourite tokidoki pattern, it has grown on me because it looks less....childish? That's just mho...

Gerard Darel Pocket Saint Germain 24 heures: Bad picture. Great bag. I love it more and more with each use. The leather is soft and the bag is lightweight unlike Mr. Marc Jacob's bags. The extra pockets and compartments make it much easier to organize my things since the regular Saint Germain had only 1 interior pocket. It has replaced my desire for the Balenciaga motorcycle bag that I wanted ever since I saw an Olsen wearing it back in the day, and saved me $$$. I will definitely get my hands on another GD if I visit Europe. Montreal prices are way too high from what I know.

While I haven't shopped that much...I did get a number of spring items that I'm fairly excited about. I'll keep it in another post so I have more to post about later LOL.

2 New Bags within 2 Weeks...

I think I need to stop buying.

Actually, I don't even think I should be blogging NOW. When I have a midterm, an assignment due AND a project to work on (among all things). A girl just needs some downtime to share her happiness though, no?

I've been meaning to puchase a Longchamp Le Pliage and/or a Le SportSac for awhile...wanted some of that lightweight nylon for school/travelling. I actually decided to go for the Longchamp, and guess what?

A Tokidoki Le SportSac popped up when I was least expecting it.

I used to shop at Winners (Like Kohl's in the U.S.? Basically different brands send their 'ends' there for discounted prices) when I was in elementary-middle school. Early on, my mother taught me the importance of getting good quality/brands for a fraction of the price. Well, I've barely gone since, and at my recent stop at Winners, not only did I find out they carried designer brands (which I'm sure most of you know by now), but they also opened a new and improved beauty department!

So, I left with an Adios Star BV Tote, a Carita Paris cleansing milk, and a huge bottle of Decleor Paris cleansing water...all for less than $200.

My second bag arrived today! I've been eyeing the Gerard Darel 24 hr. St. Germain bag for ages....and it's mine now! I'm a bit disappointed though...I was expecting it to be bigger, with smoother/squishier leather....the interior was not that nice too. I was expecting more for a 300 Euro bag. *sigh* It smelled funky too, not the type of leather smell that I usually like...I guess when you have 'high hopes', you'll also get disappointed more easily.

Well, no more bags for the rest of the year! That is my goal.

*winks* that means I only have to wait 2 more months....

Happy Halloween?

Ok..so this post is not related to fashion or deals or anything of the like. My family hasn't passed out candy in a few years...so I decided to be nice and give out some candy this year! However, since I wasn't home, I put some candies in a jack-o-lantern plastic bucket (remember the one from McDonald's?) and put it outside on the window ledge so people can take some. I trust that humans are good and so left it there happily this morning.

When I came back just now, not only did all the candy disappear (which is a good thing), but MY PRECIOUS PUMPKIN BUCKET is gone too!. Ahhhh I should've known not to put something so cute outside...but I didn't believe how GREEDY people could be. I'm already giving you free candy and you take my bucket too?!?! My parents actually did this before when I was little...and we even got candy in return! Fast forward 10 year later to 2007....they take everything.

GAH! Kids these days just aren't like what they used to be.

Ok..rant over.

Hope you all had a fun halloween! I saw some pretty funky costumes today (Sailor, Clown...Cow..hahaha)!

Moral of the story: Short and simple. Please don't be greedy :)

A Solution for Dry Skin?

Dry, itchy, sensitive skin? I think it runs in my family or something...unfortunately.

I got the Skin MD Natural lotion awhile ago...but a product junkie like me sometimes has too many different creams lying around the house that I totally forgot about it!

Thankfully, as I was clearing up my desk, I found this....and boy, am I ever glad I did! I hate the greasiness of body butters even though they're excellent moisturizers...love the fast absorbing, lightweight properties of a lotion but it doesn't seem to be moisturizing enough. Can you say picky? Many lotions that are scented and smell wonderful at first...but by the end of the day you can get this 'icky' smell.

Skin MD Natural shielding lotion is different. It's texture is light and serum/emulsion like which means super fast absorption...and it works!. I looked at the list of ingredients and found all the main ingredients to be natural skin soothers like Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Arnica. I love how it's unscented. It can also be used on the face, hands and body. Gotta love a multi-tasker!

I have to admit...the first time I used it, it didn't seem that special aside from being perfect for sensitive skin. My skin is not that sensitive (just dry on the legs and elbows) so I gave it to my mom. Sometimes, it's not about the packaging, advertising or lots of fancy frills. This is genuinely a good product, and the more you use it, the better the effects (over time).

So if you've tried every lotion out there and are still seeking the perfect, lightweight supermoisturizer...perhaps give this one a shot.

Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians! I already had my share of turkey w/ stuffing and gravy last night and woke up with looking a bit pudgy -_-. Anyhow, thinking about clothing just isn't fun when I can barely squeeze myself into my favourite pair of straight legged Miss Sixty's so...I decided to browse through makeup instead.

3. Shu Uemura Perfect Eye Set contains the famous Shu curler, Precise Volume mascara and an eyeliner pencil. The Shu curler is the newly redesigned one (not quite sure of the difference) and I absolutely love their mascara, even though it's a bit pricy. It's $59 USD...hopefully they'll carry this in Canada too.4. Tarte-We Wish You Health Skininvigorating Discovery Kit
This is marked as $38 USD and contains the Clean Slate primer, Lock and Roll creasless eyeshadows w/ Vit. After disappearing for a few months....I have decided to start this again. I don't even think people check this blog anymore:P but then..i suppose it's not that old of a blog either. Lots of personal things happened, and blogging just wasn't my priority. I hate to say that I prefer to read rather than write..it gets rather stressful at times as I feel obligated to post regularly. Doesn't help that my computer was down and taken to fix..for....a long while. I survived w/o internet at home..and only managed to sneak onto it at work (which we aren't allowed to do...eek!)

To any readers out there though...I'm VERY SORRY. Hopefully that won't happen again, or at least I'll leave a notice before I'm MIA.

Anyways, since the the purpose of me blogging is to keep a record of my buys/wants and to provide any lovely readers w/ a good deal...this post will not be without either one of them!

Wow. Clinique just keeps on giving freebies and GWP's don't they. Very generous! Unfortunately for me, I'm overstocked with both skincare AND makeup. Don't need any more...even if it's free. Don't feel like taking the time to go to the counter, getting a consultation, all that just for a freebie either.

Also, apparently there was also a freebie bag from Estee Lauder@ the Bay where you get samples of skincare in a cute little bag. That was about a week ago or so. If you're at the Bay, check it out to see if there's any left :) I heard it was a good one...but again, no time to check it out.

Underrated Beauty: Camilla Belle

Fashion/Style icons typically revolve around celebrities. Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot are classic icons. Nowadays, it's kinda hard to find a modern style icon since very few celebrities don't use a stylist. However, one young, striking beauty gets two thumbs up for NOT using a stylist, but still looking gorgeous at most, if not all events.

Camilla Belle. Most might know her from the thriller "When a Stranger Calls". Others might recognize her from the Miu Miu ads she did with Kim Basinger or the Vera Wang Princess ads. She's been in a lot of movies in her younger days (but I didn't know her then :P). She knows what she looks good in whether it is something young and colourful, graceful & ladylike, or chic & sophisticated. I love how she can look both young and fresh and mature depending on the event. Her thick eyebrows give her character and set her apart from all the other blue eyed blondes in Hollywood.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this silver dress is by Fendi, as I remember seeing ads of it. I was not impressed by the model wearing it in the ad...but Camilla makes it look so 'cool' here. It's futuristic, yet glam at the same time!
This bright blue Oscar de la Renta dress with pockets is fitting for both her age and a daytime event. The silver Miu Miu shoes were kinda unexpected to go with a dress like this, but together, it looks fabulous.Here she is in another Oscar de la Renta dress. It's kinda cutesy but she looks great in it. I think dark haired girls look beautiful in red. Hilary Swank is also seen wearing this dress on the cover of an issue of In Style magazine this year. However, I think Camilla pulls it off better :)

The dress she wore at The Costume Institute Gala this year has been a hit or miss according to different people. The dress is Gaultier Paris Haute Couture. It's very goddess like IMO. It's actually quite refreshing to see someone who's actually covered up! Finally, a dress that's not strapless, halter, spaghetti strap, plunging neckline or backless. It's not my favourite, but I do like the unique factor of it.
Slightly more casual as this was taken at a Club Monaco event. The jacket is so elegant! I love how she makes the simplest pieces look so good.Something a bit different from all those gowns/cocktail dresses. I think this dress is by Chloe and the shoes are Prada.

It's too bad there aren't many candid photos of her as I'd love to see how her 'casual' style is. I definitely think she dresses in a unique and classy way, based on her fashion choices on the red carpet, fashion show and events unlike *cough* LiLo *cough*. That, or it could be her striking features or her long and lean figure.

Either way, this is a young Hollywood star that I feel has been underrated in terms of her striking looks and fashion sense. What do you think of Camilla Belle's style? What other celebrity do you feel has been underrated in terms of style & beauty?

I finished my FINAL exam early this morning, and to celebrate, I did a bit of shopping (again...cos this IS "Keep on Shopping")!

Purchased this soft sea green cotton Juicy Couture baby doll cami at 75% off. I promise you I'm not a fan of juicy...(I admit I have one of their 'signature' hoodies)...but some of their stuff that doesn't have a huge "JUICY" emblazoned on it look quite nice. I found the neckline quite flattering. The double spaghetti straps make this cami a bit more special than a regular high street store one.

Here is the back view where you see the typical elastic backing that many Juicy shirts have. I do like the pleated effect at the back though.

I adore Mike&Chris stuff for simple reasons. I love wearing plain tees, tanks, zip ups and jeans...but it tends to get a bit boring. THIS though, is casualwear with a twist! I already own a cropped hoodie from Mike&Chris, and adding to my collection is this Cody vest in dark, forest green. I dunno why it looks black in the pic...but for 80% off, it's cheaper than buying through online stores! It's still kinda hard to justify paying $200+ for this....but I won't complain when it's on sale.
Yes...this is a plain ol' wifebeater tank in plain ol' gray. This is a staple in my closet though. I own these tanks in different colours, patterns and brands. They're great to wear under (cardigan/jacket), over (tee or dress shirt), AND out (just by itself). You can even layer them..but I'm sure you all know that. Anyways I usually buy the high street store ones (Old Navy, Zara, TNA, Club Monaco etc.) but I've picked up 2 James Perse tanks in the past 2 months. A neon green one (perfect for summer) and this basic neutral one, both at 75% off.
Alright, I know what you fashionistas are thinking. Yes, this is an AE polo. It fits great and the bright orange is unique. I don't see many people in ORANGE these days. Beats me why all the previous AE customers have gone over to Hollister and Abercrombie...they're all the same to me. In fact, AE is cheaper AND you can actually see what you're buying because they turn on the lights! Maybe I'm just biased though cos I was an AE fan in high school ( I don't wear head to toe though..so I never looked like a beachy kid). Anyways, I should stop talking because I do have a hollister sweater and an A&F tshirt :P Not that I'm a fan...but they were on sale and gd basics y'know? =_=
Isn't he adorable? He was all alone and surrounded by 20 Chicken Littles, 1 Flounder, and a bunch of Cinderella mice. He was only $2.99, but I would've adopted him either way XD (This is Roo from Winnie the Pooh btw...).

After some studying at Starbucks today, I walked into Blossom, the bath and beauty store, just browsing randomly since I haven't shopped there in a long time.

My browsing turned into another small spree when I saw all the 50% off signs in the back.

I spent most of my time deciding what to purchase from the John Masters line. I've only heard of good things about it (and on Oprah)...so for 50% on selected skincare products, I was in heaven.

I purchased the Jojoba & Ginseng exfoliating face cleanser (pic) and French Green Clay & Green Tea Purifying mask for myself and the Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser for my mom (Mother's Day is coming up this Sunday guys!). I know what you're thinking, 2 items for yourself and only 1 for your mom?! I have other plans already, so the cleanser is just a bonus :)

I tried to find reviews on makeupalley, but no luck so far. I'll post my reviews when I actually get to using it...dunno when that'll be since I'm a product junkie.

Gap x Rodarte Bow Top

Ok...everybody knows that the designer collaboration ( Doori, Thakoon, Rodarte) with Gap has been out for awhile. In fact, most places around the world (or is it the States only?) sold out when it first hit the shelves.

Anyways...I never really bothered looking cos:

1) I didn't know Canada would carry it
2) I don't know if it's worth it to purchase such an expensive cotton top because it's only a COLLABORATION, not the ACTUAL designer piece
3) Tons of people will flock out and purchase these tops/dresses...which means that it's not that unique anymore
4) Gap material is only ok...is it worth it to splurge on nice design, not so nice quality?

I called today, and one location still has one that MIGHT fit me...

So my question is: Should I buy it? It's $88 CAD..for a tank top...albeit a nice tank top. For those who bought it, anyone know how the sizing is? the quality of the top? is it worth the splurge?

*sigh* I need a (office) job. Would anyone like to hire me?

I first learned about this brand 7 years ago, when I took a tour around Europe during my high school summer. I was in Italy, at some random shop...when I saw this cute doll like figure that opened up to several palettes of make up. Unfortunately, the one I wanted (an angel that opened up similar to the one below) was the last one and on display...so I sadly left it.
I encountered this brand recently.. (well, about a year ago) at Shoppers Drug Mart! Gotta love their new "Beauty Boutique". I love Sephora...but it's always nice to help out our local stores (Sephora is owned by LVHM...as if they're not rich enough already :P). Besides, shopping at SDM means Optimum points AND gift with purchases (which you NEVER get at Sephora).
What I love about this brand is their adorable and playful packaging. Their palette sets are especially memorable. From dolls that open up to palettes in the shape of ice cream cones and animals, Pupa cosmetics makes an awesome gift for a friend or yourself. The price is reasonable too! I mean, something that's from Milan, Italy, ALWAYS looks good as a gift.
Their body care line, Miss Milkie is absolutely amazing! It smells great since it comes in scents like vanilla, white chocolate, candy floss, sweet almond or mint and is super hydrating. The little cow on the packaging is cute too!

Canadians, check it out at SDM or Sophie Cosmetics (Times Square Richmond Hill). You'll probably be more comfortable testing and playing with the items at SDM though since service at Sophie...fluctuates...depending on the SA.
International: you can purchase online at strawberrynet.com, though the selection is rather limited.

I can't wait to try more products from the Pupa line!

Spring/Summer Cheap Thrills

Over the past few weeks...I've shopped around and picked things up 'accidently'. I have had no intention of buying anything in particular for the past 2 months...but unfortunately(?), that's when I buy the most -_-. I used to hate H&M. When it first opened in Toronto., I would keep going in, hopint to find something, but I would never find anything I liked. I didn't find the prices all that cheap either....but looks like I changed my mind this past year. (please don't mind the random stuff in my room shown in the pics :P).
Picked up this coral empire waisted v-neck jersey dress today @ H&M. The print looks like some splattered ink dots on a coral background. On the TLC show 'What Not To Wear', coral is said to be one of the most universally flattering colours. It looks good on ANY skintone. I don't own anything coral...so this might be a good start. The empire waist is flattering for shorties like me, the knee length is great for petites (me again) and the straps are JUST thick enough to cover bra straps. SCORE at $16.90 CAD!
On my last day of classes, I took a trip down to Eaton Centre to pick up a freebie and to check out Sephora. I ended up at Urban Outfitters instead when I saw the additional 50% off sign. Not as good as March's end of season additional 75% sale...but still good. Got this sheer, floaty sleeved top for $17. I've been trying to change my wardrobe the past 2 years with a focus on more feminine tops to pair with my love of casual denim and trouser shorts. A great, colourful addition to my wardrobe since I mainly wear neutrals.
Picked this blush jersey top with black sash at H&M also. Regular price at $24.90...usually I don't buy regular priced stuff...but I just loved the length of the top, the pleats, and the slightly square neckline. The jersey material is super sheer, but comfortable. I actually hate the colour pink....but since this is so light, I'll consider it neutral XD.
My aunt bought this for me from Korea or HK...I forgot. The nude colour is nice, so are the lace accents...very romantic. However, this isn't quite my style (frilly, girly, ultra fem/cute). The bottom layers of the skirt part aren't exactly the most flattering for my problem area (thighs) either. I like it..and I do want to wear it...Anyone have any suggestions to make it look more flattering or 'cool'?
Finally...SHOE SHOPPING! One of my favourite things to do. Like my wardrobe, I've also been working on changing my shoe collection for the past few years...less sneakers and more heels and ballet flats. Picked up this pair of Louboutin-esque Aldo blue patent leather platforms for $25. Haven't worn them yet...I'm scared I won't be able to walk in them. I don't think I'll wear em much...but for $25, I'll give them a try. Just bought these 2 weeks ago and have worn them like mad! Red leather flats for $20. They also had gold...and I was so tempted to get them too, but I've always wanted a pair of red flats. I also wanted to see how comfy these were before I picked up 2 pairs. I love them! Still trying to break into them, but they're a lot more comfy than the silver ballet flats I got at Aritzia (which look exactly the same except for the bottom).

All that for just a little over $100 (minus the lace dress and tax). :D

Just finished my FIRST exam today =_= but I'll celebrate by announcing random beauty deals as the title says. (lame celebration, I know :P)
Maybelline Great Lash mascara is loved by make up artists, but hated but reviewers on Make Up Alley. I'm actually 'ok' with it. Not great, not bad. Good, cheap backup mascara nonetheless. Just remember that you'll spidery lashes with too many coats...keep it light with one coat or two and it's pretty natural.
Get the twin pack for $4.96 CAD at Wal-Mart. That's less than $2.50 per mascara!
Cover Girl Professional Mascara: great reviews on this one. I personally haven't tried it yet, but I plan to pick one up tomorrow. $3.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart. Also on sale for $3.99 is CG's Super Thick Lash mascara. Ugly tube, but apparently great formula.
Hurry, cos the deal ends on April 27.

Since I've been talking about mascara...my fave from Lancome is the Hypnose mascara. It's quite expensive...and I find it hard to justify paying so much for something I toss out in 3 months...but that's what GWPs are for!Elizabeth Arden has come out with a new fragrance, Mediterranean. However, here's the catch. Puchase the Mediterranean 50ml fragrance, and receive the above set for $62. There are 2 palettes with eyeshadows and blush, 2 lipglosses, 3 lipsticks, eyeliner pencil, lipliner, makeup brush set, handbag, mini EDT etc. valued at $340.Finally, Estee Lauder is doing a GWP at Sears. Get the above set (valued at $65) with any purchase of $32 or more. I don't use Estee Lauder...so I can't really recommend anything. Their brush on illuminating concealer is a good, cheaper alternative to YSL's Touche Eclat and Dior's Skinflash though! This deal ends April 27.

Coveting my first Tiffany piece

I've been hoping to break away from only posting about local (Toronto/Canadian) deals/freebies....though who doesn't love a good bargain? Here's another shot at targeting more personal shopping dilemmas: picking out a piece of Tiffany jewellery for myself.

I'll admit it...Tiffany's is a classic, and has been all the rage years ago when I first learned about the brand...yet I don't own a piece of this classic. Mind you, I'll emphasize the fact that I'm a non-working student...and one who much prefers to purchase something on sale. Unfortunately, classics don't go on sale. Take Louis Vuitton, Chanel...and of course, Tiffany & Co. My budget is limited...so I'm gonna stick to good ol' 925 silver pieces.These 1837 circle earrings are so cute! They look like buttons. I know they have the big logo...but it's kinda subtle since they're tiny earrings. I don't change my earrings much..so I think I'll get great use out of them..thus making the $190 CAD price tag more worth it.I've always liked the Atlas line...it's a Tiffany classic, without flashing the words "Tiffany". Most of the accessories from the Atlas line are more expensive...but this roman numeral covered die is whimsical yet elegant. The $190 CAD price tag doesn't hurt my wallet either.The Return to Tiffany line has been one of the most popular lines among young people. Could it be the clear display of the name? The low price tag? Who knows? It's classic though (despite the many knockoffs found online and in HK). Again..I don't mind the 'brand' being displayed so much...who's gonna look at my ears anyways? Especially when it's not those big, dangly earrings. $160 CAD.Again, the ever popular "Return to Tifffany" heart tag necklace. I prefer the heart over the oval and circle...cos those are just TOO tag like...I also like the pendant more than the thick chained version of the necklace that most ppl seem to have (on their necks and wrists)...that version looks too....dog tag like IMO. No offense to anyone...to me, this one is just daintier and more lady-like. Nicely priced at just $125 CAD.The ever popular non-logo design: Elsa Peretti's Open heart has been seen on everyone's necks. It's simple and classy. I love her fluid design....but I've seen tons of similar earrings like these for a fraction of the price. Is it worth the $195 CAD splurge?Elsa Peretti "Bean" pendant: I've always been interested in this piece. I'm not sure why..but I find it so funny! Something as ridiculous (well...random) as a bean being made into such a fluid and elegant design. I like it though! It's something I would like to own one day...but if I could only own ONE piece of Tiffany...I'm not sure if I'll want it to be a bean. It's different...and though subtle, it'll still make a great conversation starter.

Paloma Picasso Loving Heart pendant. Picasso's "X" logo is strategically incorporated into the heart shape. I like it when logos are are subtly linked into another image/design. I dunno...I don't like IN YOUR FACE logos...but unless the design is really superb...I don't see the point of spending a lot on something that's simple (like a good ol' heart, teardrop, etc.) that doesn't have a logo.

Finally...this one is totally out of my budget...but it's so pretty!
Star Lariat necklace: I love the design! This one doesn't have any jewels/diamonds so you can get it for $285. It'll look so nice with a pretty, plain coloured top/dress so that the necklace can take the spotlight! I don't think I'll have much chance to wear this...as I dress very casually on a day to day basis. There's also a heart version...but that's too cutesy/girly for me. I'd definitely get this though when I have the $ or when I have enough events that allow me dress up. I'm rational enough to not let my senses take over me....which is important for any fashionista on a budget.

I know I like too many things...but there you have it. My long list of wants. Which one should I go for? Help me choose a piece from above, or recommend another piece of jewellery. I'm very open to suggestions. I'm not sure whether I want a pendant or earrings...so if you want to, help me pick one of each. XD

Petite Feet Sample Sale: April 12-April 15

I just found out about this today, so I couldn't post earlier about it! I just went, but came back empty handed unfortunately. The selection is great though, just that I don't have anything i REALLY wanted ( I just bought 2 pairs of shoes last month), plus, I'm a true-to-size 5.5, so only a some size 6's fit me.

Don't let the name trick you though! Although most of the shoes are Size 6 (hence, petite), there are also shoes that run from sizes 7-12. I would say 95% of the shoes are for women though.

5th Element Fine Dining & Lounge offers an East Indian-Mediterranean Fusion cuisine. It's a good introduction to Indian food (even though it's NOT an Indian restaurant). It sits at the convenient location of Bay & St. Joseph (right between Bloor and Wellesley). The restaurant is one level and offers patio sitting in warmer months. Our group of 10 ordered from the special promotional 4 course dinner menu, and it was DELICIOUS (not to mention the fabulous price!).

We all started off with the 'amuse" which was the English Green Pea Consomme. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture, but it was a small green pea soup with crispy dough balls floating on top. There was a slight zesty aftertaste to it...which made it very enjoyable. One of my friends loved it and wanted more after finishing.

There were 5 appetizers to choose from...and as you see above, I chose the salmon wrapped scallops. The bay scallop was grilled..and the flavour of it was exquisite! I loved the spices they put on the scallop. I'm a fan of smoked salmon, so I def loved this dish. The Vegetable Samosa au Gratin was a samosa with melted cheese on top and I heard it was excellent as well. Other choices include the FIsh Tempura, Asian Pear & Mango Salad and Chaat Delicacy.
For the main course, the Lobster Risotto was a popular choice. I didn't try it, but everyone cleared their plates. Of course, how can you go wrong with yummy lobster tails and creamy risotto?
I opted for the Nazami Lamb Shank. I totally RECOMMEND this dish. I'm don't eat lamb that much...nor do I always appreciate that strange flavour only lamb gives off...but this is one of the best lamb shanks I've ever had. Part of the reason was because the 'lamb' flavour wasn't too strong, secondly..I just really liked the sauce. It was a little sweet and salty and also had a tang to it. The mashed potatoes go very nicely with the sauce as well.Another entree option was the Tandoor Red Chicken. If you like curry, or spicy/zesty food, you'll probably like this dish. The pilaf rice tastes like curry rice (I never knew what pilaf was). It looked quite yummy actually.
The other 2 entree options include Salmon Rolade and Stuffed Paneer Tikka.
Finally...DESSERT!. I had the creme brulee. Some claim that it was only 'ok' and some didn't like the consistency. I thought it was good...not OUTSTANDING..but still good. My only problem was that there was too much sugar on top. I ha to hit my spoon hardly to break off the first piece. Not bad though.Another choice for dessert was the chocolate mousse. I've heard lots of good things about it...but my friends don't like overly rich or sweet things. It should be a great choice for any chocolate lover though!
The final choice for dessert was Gulab Jamun with Mascarpone cheese.

All in all, I had a wonderful experience there. The servers and the boss were friendly. Service was a teeny bit slow..but that's expected of finer restaurants. At least they weren't trying to rush you out the door to seat other people (like Asian places -_-). For the price, the portions were good. Not teeny like what you would expect at the -licious events. For girls, the portions were more than enough. Unless you're a big guy, you should be satiated. The dinner promo of $39.99 for 2 people ends April 14, but do not fret because I heard there will be another promo soon at the end of the month. Their regular menu prices are also quite affordable for this type of restaurant.

I know that they recently launched their products at Target in the U.S. I was actually thinking about having my friend bring me back something from the UK since she's going there next week...but luckily, I no longer have to ask for the favour.

Ok ...more like...in Toronto and Winnipeg. I'm actually surprised that there aren't more downtown locations carrying it yet....but I suppose they will eventually.

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2007 Dresses-Cute & Girly

I just received "Le Journal" , the BCBG Spring 2007 catalogue in the mail today...and I'm loving a lot of the looks! BCBG Max Azria is one of my favourites in terms of style, their clothes can be cute & feminine and chic & elegant while being comfortable at the same time. Their price point is still a bit high for my budget, but it's not bad compared to other designer brands since BCBG is a middle-upper range brand. Their seasonal sales that go up to 75% off aren't too bad either! Below are some of my picks for this season:
(above: Cotton Voile Dress with Embroidered Detail $364 CAD/ $280 USD)This yellow mini dress is delicate with the floral details on the neckline and the cheery yellow colour is perfect for spring/summer. I almost couldn't believe my eyes! Yes, that's Mary Kate Olsen in case you're still in shock.

This came quite unexpectedly. I think the Olsen twins are cute...but MK's fashion sense is a bit too...eccentric for me at times. She looks clean and polished here...kinda like her sister Ashley though.

Still a nice outfit nonetheless. I think the twins tend to dress a bit old for their age sometimes though...it's not a bad thing, but I sometimes wonder what they look like in a regular 20 year old outfit of jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt? (more directed to MK...I think I've seen Ashley do casual.)

At the same time, it already feels awkward to me that she's dressed like this. Maybe I miss her ripped leggings already?_?

Spa Week For Everyone: April 16-22

I haven't blogged in too long. Not such a good way to start off my blog...but school's been busy and I haven't been out much.

Anyways...back to topic. I realize my posts have been more beauty related and localized to Canadians. Well, this one is for the Americans as well...but still beauty related.

The spa week event is where Americans (and Torontonians) get to try out a spa treatment for only $50 as opposed to $100-$200+. Go to the spa week site. for details. Sign up, and you'll get to view which spas in your area are part of the event. I guess you call to book and get to spa for $50 if you ask them about spa week.

I personally have never joined this event before.. but if anyone is into facials, massages and stuff..I guess this is a way to get your usual for a low price. It's also a good ways for those who want to try a new spa place before shelling out hundreds of dollars.

I haven't been blogging much lately...too bombarded by midterms @__@ which means no time for shopping/entertainment.

I did manage to purchase my first 'large' sized designer bag last Friday. Since I'm on a budget...I had to keep it under $1000 and I wanted something classic...something that I can wear for years to come (cos I'm frugal like that).

In the end, I got the Louis Vuitton Damier Speedy 30. Every fashionista has to own a piece of Louis Vuitton right? All the Miu Miu leather bags I wanted, classic Chanel bags were $1000 +.

Hrmm...but now I'm still debating...should I have gotten the monogram instead? (even thought i'm not big on monogrammed goods...). I know the damier is actually the first, older design..but it makes me look kinda....'mature'. I'm not a career woman just yet.

*sigh* I still love it though. What to do? Any suggestions?

Gotta Love Free Food

Free cosmetics are always nice...but equally nice is free food (to me at least...i loveeeee to eat)! The great thing about downtown (besides shopping, food, entertainment, people watching...etc.) is that companies always do promotions and give away freebies for you to remember them. I've gotten countless coupons, 'VIP' discount cards and pens in past years, but this year...or school year rather, I realized I've been getting lots of free snacks. Take today for example, I received the cute banana candies at St. George station from some Telus promoters (the monkey gives it aways anyways). I also got a small pack of fresh popcorn at Union Station today. I was definitely satiated! A month or two ago, I remember getting free Reese's Peanut Butter Cups at Union Station again...we're talking full size here!
The best part? These kinda freebies waste no time at all (unlike cosmetics where you have to get a consultation/makeover and then possibly purchase something and end up spending more). Now THIS is a real freebie!

My Bargain Buys: Marc by Marc Jacobs Cotton Ball Print Cami

I picked up this adorable MJ camisole at Holt Renfrew Last Call for an additional 90% off the already reduced price! I forgot the final price, but thank goodness for the reduction from $325...which is absolutely ridiculous for a cotton camisole that was made in Sri Lanka.
I couldn't figure out the straps for the longest time...but if you can see in the last pic, I somehow made it into criss cross straps after playing around with it.
I bought this awhile ago, so you probably won't be able to find it anymore, but Holt's last call store is always overstocked with clothing, shoes, lingerie and accessories from past seasons at heavily discounted prices. Actually, most of the time I find the stock there hideous. It's messy, some clothes are old and damaged.....I almost gave up shopping there because 85% of the time, I never find anything. Even Winners is neat compared to it! Fortunately, the past few times I went, I was able to pick up something, so don't give up! Like vintage shops, last call is always hit-or-miss. If you have time, scrounge around and maybe you'll find some good quality items at ridiculous prices! At least you'll have the confidence that Holt's won't be selling you inauthentic goods!

Cosmetic Sets: Get the Most Bang for Your Buck

Ever since I hit university, I started to have an interest in quality skincare and makeup. With Sephoras popping up in Toronto, and the expansion of the beauty counters at SDM and Holt's, trying products other than Maybelline or Cover Girl seemed inevitable.
With my growing preference for quality products but being on a student budget, gift sets are the ideal way to purchase normally 'expensive' products for a fraction of the price. Gift sets often feature popular products as well, so you're bound to find a few items you'll like. If the item simply doesn't suit you, you can give it away as a gift or stocking stuffer like I do. It looks great without spending a lot. It's also a great way to try out different products before you pay full retail price for them.
My Recommendations:
1) Smashbox All Access VIP: it's a great deal for $69 CAD. It's a perfect set for someone starting to use makeup.
2) I got the Cargo 10th anniversay set for $49 CAD and it contains 5 full sized products, all of which are best sellers.
3)The Caudalie VinoGo Weekend set is priced at $32 USD, but it's also $32 CAD! I love Caudalie products, especially the foaming cleanser.
4) Stila On The Go Set: $41 CAD with the lovely and highly pigmented shadow quad, lip glaze in honeydew and full size convertible colour in the best colour (IMO) Lillium ( it's not on the sephora site anymore...not sure if it's sold out).

Exercise without Exercising

I used to be quite athletic.....back in elementary school that is. I was on the relay team, track and field team, and I loved hockey. I even got good grades in Phys.Ed! Unfortunately, halfway through high school marked the end of my 'regular' fitness regime.

I wouldn't say that I HATE exercising....but I'm just not doing it very regularly anymore. I bought some Windsor Pilates DVDs..but that got boring real quick. I have a treadmill and bike at home, but it's really there just for show. Let's just say...I don't like exercising in a confined space (i.e. gym, at home).

Then I read 'French Women Don't Get Fat' and it inspired me. Guiliano says that the French also don't enjoy working out in the gym, so how do the ladies stay so slim? Surely, besides eating well, some type of physical movement is necessary. Well, the French simply WALK. Being outdoors, people watching and sniffing the flowers makes the environment much more interesting than seeing a group of people, clad in spandex, sweating on the treadmill.

Ok, so maybe walking won't exactly let you lose those 10 lbs. in a week, but if you're like me, simply wanting to stay fit for health purposes (and less for trying to lose weight), walking works. I try to walk to school now instead of taking transit, and it doesn't feel like I'm 'exercising', yet I feel so good knowing that I walked for 30 minutes and I feel even better when I break out in sweat. Guiliano even suggests that you can try finding different routes to reach your destination (to make things more interesting). I think that's a fabulous idea, just imagine what you might be able to discover by taking new routes!

If you don't like to go to the 'gym' like me but want to stay fit, try walking. You'll be surprised at the physical and mental gratification you can get. Besides, who knows what goodies or deals you may end up finding while 'exercising'?

This might be old news to some, but the Canadian UO stores are having an additional 75% off all sale items. The stock is mediocre but they do add new stock to the sale racks. Most of the good stuff is probably gone from the previous additional 50% off sale, but this is a good time to stock up on basics such as tees, tank tops, leggings and jeans. I bought 2 tops, one for $7.50 and the other for $11.50. I heard that there were Miss Sixty jeans for $39.99, Keds and Converse shoes for $10 (not in the Toronto location). Most small sizes are gone, but there are still some medium-larger sizes left. Call your local UO in advance to see if they are having the sale in your area though before you run out the door.

So, I was shopping at the Eaton Centre yesterday after school and dropped in at the BCBG store. Seeing sale signs from 20%-70% off...what do I do? Head for the 70% off section of course! I bought a pair of BCBG Max Azria wedge sandles last summer and they were the most comfortable 4-5 inch shoes I've ever worn. Keep in mind that I'm NOT a heels girl because I like to be comfortable..and heels just aren't very practical when you have to walk a lot like me. These leather riding boots aren't heels but they are def cute. They retail for over $500 in Canada and $395 in the U.S. It comes in black leather, green tea (brown/taupe) leather and mahogany croc. The catch? These are now 70% off and selling for $151 in stores! Too bad I couldn't zip them up (my calves are a bit big) or else I would've snatched them up.

After discovering 'blogs' about a year ago, I've been addicted to reading others fabulous blogs. After lurking around for a year and sometimes posting comments on other's blogs, I've finally decided to join the blogging world.
I love fashion, shopping, and other girly things, but I would say that my strength is being able to get fabulous deals! I like good quality items and classic pieces, but being a student, buying an all designer wardrobe just isn't possible. Here, I can share the deals that I've found and hopefully pass it on to my dear readers...when I get any...LOL.

Style: My style is quite simple and relaxed. I like classic pieces that never go out of style. I love solid colours and stripes..that shows you how 'simple' I am. I'm never tired of neutral colours. I don't vintage shop..but own vintage items passed on to me from my mom and aunts.

Favourite Stores: H&M, Zara, TNT Blu, Aritzia, Holt Renfrew, Urban Outfitters, Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart, Blossom Beauty (Main St. Unionville), BCBG, Club Monaco, Ikea (cheap food!...oh and furniture:P) and sample sales!

Favourite Designer: changes all the time...I still like the Marc by Marc Jacobs line, 3.1 Philip Lim, Max Azria for BCBG. On the runways, I actually like John Galliano for Dior....it's always interesting

Favourite places to shop: Bloor St. W, Queen St. W, Yorkdale Mall (Toronto), outlet malls, unique shops in other countries while travelling.
